Any body have any tips on drilling this stuff? 400 brinell steel is not the easiest thing to drill. We need to make a 1/4" dia How to drill a hole in AR500 steel targets? - AR15.COMFeb 07, 2014 · Quoted:I have 6 1/2" thick AR500 targets I need half inch holes drilled through them for hanging purposes. I don't want to use a torch or other heat source to do this because that will destroy the steel hardness in that area. I tried drilling them with my hand drill and a quality drill bit but the AR500 steel just laughed at me!

Welding AR400 Plate - Lincoln ElectricAR400 is a quench and tempered steel and may be difficult to weld due its high strength and hardenability. The base steel around the weld rapidly heats and cools during welding, resulting in a heat affected zone (HAZ) with high hardness.
Oct 05, 2011 · Steel that dimples at 300yds with a 308 or a 300WM is NOT AR400. Our steel chickens are AR400 and I shoot them plenty with a 223 XP-100 75gr Match bullet at 2500 muzzle from 50M and they never show so much as a dimple. Now if your targets are immovable this can change things but still I have doubts your steel is AR400 if you show dimples at 300yds.Drilling AR400 Steel - The Home Shop Machinist & Machinist Oct 30, 2006 · Drilling AR 400 I have drilled AR 400 and AR 500 quite easily as long as I used a drill press and kept good preasure on the bit and using tapmagicyou let it ride any and it will work harden.
